Top 7 Filipino Snacks/Desserts you must Try!
Filipino cuisine has recently been popping in the food scenes. Especially since Jollibee has been expanding there locations from all over the world. If you happen just to go to the Philippines or want to get familiar with the cuisine these are the Top 7 Filipino snacks/desserts you must TRY! to satisfy your sweet tooth.
1. Bibingka
Bibingka is basically a fluffy cake made from rice flour. It is usually topped with salted egg or cheese and banana leaf is used as lining for the cake. Bibingka in my opinion is bland on its on so Filipinos pair it with coconut shavings and melted butter to give it extra sweetness.
2. Ube
Ube is made from purple yams and is turned into consistence like paste. It can be eaten on it's or be eaten with bread to balance out its sweetness. Ube can also be seen topped in Halo-Halo, also a popular Filipino dessert, because of it's unique taste and color it has been a popular flavor on many desserts recently.
3. "Dirty" ice cream
I know it's called "dirty" ice cream but isn't necessarily dirty so don't worry. It is called dirty because some people think the ice cream is dirty because of the way the ice cream was handled and the fact they are selling it in the streets. This is a very iconic dessert for Filipinos especially when you here the street vendor ring the bell. I recommend you try it at least once if you are having doubts of its cleanliness because of how much it cost, it can go around from P10-P20.
4. Cheese rings
This is probably one of every kids favorite snack growing up in the philippines. Because of its cheesy powdery exterior with a hint of sweetness to it and crunchy ring. This is surely a must try and it will surely make you feel like a kid again.
5. Corn ice cream
Yep you read it right Corn flavored ice cream. This is a bizarre one but trust me on this one when you bite into the ice cream you taste the flavor and crunchy texture of the corn in your mouth. With its weird and distinct combination this is one flavor your gonna keep wanting more.6. Pande-coco
Pandecoco;a combination of two words Pandesal, Coconut. Pandecoco is toasted sweet coconut inside of pandesal a light, airy filipino bread. It is typically made hot and fresh during the morning. A staple breakfast item to start your day high.
7.Halo-Halo
This one is probably isn't a shocker and you probably have heard of this before but I'll still put it on the list. Halo-halo is usually made with ice, ice cream(usually ube flavored), toppings(beans, different colored jellys, leche flan,etc...),milk. It's called Halo-halo(in english: mix-mix) because before you eat the iced dessert you have to mix all the components altogether to fully taste all of its flavors when mixed because each component make the dessert complete and full.
